Spice Girls é um girl group britânico de música pop formado em 1994. O grupo é formado por Melanie Brown ("Scary Spice"), Melanie Chisholm ("Sporty Spice"), Emma Bunton ("Baby Spice"), Geri Halliwell ("Ginger Spice"), e Victoria Beckham ("Posh Spice"). Ela foram reunidas pela Heart Management, que realizou audições para criar um grupo feminino para competir com as boy bands britânicas, populares na época. Após deixarem a Heart, o grupo contratou Simon Fuller como seu empresário e mentor e assinaram com a Virgin Records. Elas lançaram seu primeiro single, "Wannabe", que alcançou o topo das paradas em mais de 30 países, incluindo os Estados Unidos, fazendo as garotas tornarem-se "fenômenos globais". Seu álbum de estreia, Spice – que extraiu outras canções de sucesso como "Say You'll Be There", "2 Become 1" e "Who Do You Think You Are"/"Mama" – vendeu 31 milhões de cópias, tornando-se o mais comprado de todos os tempos por um grupo só de mulheres. O disco seguinte das meninas, Spiceworld, vendeu 20 milhões de cópias em todo o mundo. A obra, ainda, teve como músicas de trabalho, "Spice Up Your Life", "Too Much" e "Viva Forever", que foram primeiro lugar no Reino Unido. Ambos os álbuns encapsularam o estilo teen pop e a mensagem de empoderamento feminino, com contribuições vocais e de composição compartilhadas igualmente pelas integrantes. Em maio de 1998, Halliwell anunciou sua saída das Spice Girls no meio de uma turnê mundial.
