Lionel Brockman Richie Jr. (Tuskegee, 20 de junho de 1949), mais conhecido por Lionel Richie, é um cantor e produtor musical norte-americano.
Foi membro da banda The Commodores e vendeu mundialmente mais de cem milhões de discos em sua carreira solo.
Em 2017, foi condecorado no 40º Prêmio Kennedy (do inglês: Annual Kennedy Center Honors), um dos mais prestigiados da cultura norte americana.

Lionel nasceu na cidade de Tuskegee (Alabama), onde cresceu na residência do avô no campus do Instituto Tuskegee. Anos mais tarde sua família mudou-se para Illinois, onde formou-se na "Joilet Township High School".

Então Richie voltou ao Instituto Tuskegee onde graduou-se em economia. Em seguida frequentou brevemente a escola de pós-graduação na Universidade de Auburn. Onde tornou membro da fraternidade Alpha Phi Alpha.

Em 1975, Richie casou-se com a namorada da faculdade, Brenda Harvey.
