Duran Duran é uma banda inglesa de new wave formada no ano de 1978 em Birmingham por John Taylor e Nick Rhodes, que começaram a tocar em um clube em que trabalhavam. John era um segurança de balada e Nick era o DJ do grupo. É a mais bem-sucedida banda do estilo new romantic, sendo uma das mais importantes da década de 1980. Duran Duran era a banda favorita da Princesa Diana. Liderou as aparições na MTV, comandando a "Segunda Invasão Britânica nos Estados Unidos". Além disso, eles colocaram catorze singles no Top 10 britânico e 21 na Billboard Hot 100, o que lhes rendeu uma vendagem de mais de duzentos milhões de cópias por todo o mundo. Eram geralmente considerados parte da cena new romantic, junto a bandas como Spandau Ballet e Visage. A banda alcançou sucesso unindo música, arte, sensualidade, elegância e moda, o que lhes valeu o apelido pela imprensa de "os bonitinhos do rock". Além disso, foi pioneira ao ser uma das primeiras bandas a ter clipes filmados por diretores profissionais, com câmeras de 35mm. Em 1984, o grupo foi o primeiro a trazer a tecnologia de vídeo em seus shows de estádio.
